Adjunct Faculty Mailbox

Near the front desk, mail station all adjunct instructors share a common mail slot.  The Instructional Support Coordinator will e-mail you if there are items in the box for you to pick up.

Procedures for canceling a class

Classes should only be canceled in unavoidable situations and only if a substitute instructor or alternate course arrangements cannot be made. All course contact hours missed must be made up.

Contact the Instructional Support Coordinator as soon as possible so that the situation session can be discussed.  If the course is rescheduled it is important to ensure that a room will be available.

If you must miss a class due to illness, travel, or another last minute emergency please contact the Instructional Support Department immediately.  Policy requires that the students be contacted and a note posted regarding the cancellation.

The Instructional Services Department provides

 administrative academic support services through:

· On-Campus Adjunct (part-time faculty) Recruitment

· Adjunct Training and Daily Course Support

· Course and Academic Program Approval

· Academic Outline/ Syllabi Archives

· Catalog Development

· Course Assessment

Textbooks

Selecting a textbook that the faculty is comfortable using that at the same time fulfills the academic requirements of the course is extremely important.  In most cases, faculty is not limited to using a book selected by past instructors.  Many publishers are willing to send review copies of textbooks at no cost.  Contact the Instructional Support Coordinator for a list of publishers and contact information.  Book orders are placed through the KuC Bookstore and should be received a minimum of six weeks before the course is expected to start.

Course rosters will be provided at the start and routinely through the semester.

See Student Services or Instructional Support Coordinators for an updated copy.

Equipment

Access to KuC Computer Network

Faculty and students wishing to use the KuC computer lab must request a KuC Network account as far in advance as possible. Instructors should provide a note with a copy of the class roster if arranging for complete course accounts.

Tuition Waiver

As a special thank you for being an adjunct for Kuskokwim Campus you are entitled to (3) three credits of free tuition at KuC per semester.  You have the option of allowing an immediate family member to take advantage of the waiver.  You are allowed three credits every semester regardless of the number of courses you are teaching.

Academic Community

Adjunct faculty are invited and encouraged to attend meetings, trainings, or campus gatherings during the semester.  Mentoring and academic expertise is available through your KuC colleagues and from professors throughout the University of Alaska Fairbanks System.  For assistance with course development instructional materials or assistance with educational process contact the KuC Academic Council Chair or the Instructional Services Coordinator.

Instructional Assessment System (IAS)

This is the student’s opportunity to evaluate your course and for you to receive valuable insight from your students.  IAS is required by the university. Towards the end of the semester, you will receive the packet with instructions on how to assist with this process.  The results of your assessment including student comments will be given to the instructor to review within a few months after the course as ended.
