Audio Conference Information – Helpful Hints:

Call into your class at least 5 minutes early to insure that the equipment is working.

All students at the same site are expected to call together to save long-distance costs.

Call your instructor at his/her office number during other times.

Inquire at village schools for possible classroom space.  Students may need to purchase their own speakerphone with a mute button as the university does not have resources to buy personal audio conference equipment. In Bethel, see Heidi Simmons, KuC for audio conference arrangements.

When dialing the toll free number, you will hear a voice prompt asking you to enter your meeting number.   If you type too slow or too fast the code may not be accepted and you will have to try again.  Once you reach the bridge you may hear a beep or music.   Please wait until your instructor joins the class.

If you experience a problem reaching your conference enter *0 to reach an operator while on the bridge

Or call the Encounter Collaborative Bridge for help at: 1-800-290-5900.

To some extent, students are responsible for the quality of their phone connection.

DO NOT USE CELL PHONES OR PORTABLE BATTERY PHONES; THEY CAUSE TERRIBLE INTERFERENCE IN CONFERENCE SITUATIONS.

Bad weather, northern lights and sunspots will cause static and echo on the lines.  Hang up and dial back in to your class; a new phone connection often clears up the problem.  Loud buzzing is caused from the mike and convener being placed too close together. Check your phone’s volume if people cannot hear you.   Some speakerphones have batteries that need to be changed each semester.   Use *6 to mute your line, #6 will unmute your line.

MISSING CLASSES:

It is common courtesy to call the instructor if you miss a class.  If you plan to travel out of state, the toll free number for your course will work in most regions of North America.  If you have questions about calling internationally please call Heidi Simmons 1-800-478-5822 ext 521 – students will need to pay for calls that are not covered by the toll free zone.  If you stop attending, you should officially withdraw or you will receive a failing or no basis grade for the course.  Call the KuC Student Services for assistance 1-800-478-5822 ext 505 or 562.
